2009 Yunn-Shang Huang's Watercolour Painting Exhibition – Landscapes of Taiwan

For over 30 years, the painter Yun-xiang Huang has completed thousands of watercolour paintings in the approach of capturing from life or nature. Although paintings whose size is equal to or smaller than quarto or equal to or bigger than folio are more suitable for pure and transparent water colour paint, he thinks it seems very light if a painting is made with pure and transparent water colour paint. Therefore, he has tried to make large-sized paintings of better than folio by mixing water colour paint with architectural and chemical-industrial materials and applying them on calcium silicate boards. After many failures, he finally realized that if architectural and chemical-industrial materials are flowed, mixed and overlapped many times, embellishment and thick painting can be achieved. The result is as good as oil paint or even better. Such an arrangement will help paintings look somehow ambiguous, having mixed features of watercolour and oil paint.
