“Toys Serial” is an exhibition of oil paintings about images of toys. Gathering all kinds of toys from every country and culture, the artist, Jie-Qiang Chen, has tried to transfer them into creative elements and to find out popular culture memory and experience from society.
When the viewers enter the venue, they will immediately see familiar comic pictures and toys. Soon, these will bring their childhood memory back. If the viewers only focus on one picture, the power that it offers to them will be slightly less. In the past, Pop Art artists had devoted themselves to making something two-dimensional so that the viewers’ empathy could not be brought about. Now, the artist uses an expressionist style to narrate Pop subjects with cool feeling. However, through this exhibition, the effect is to stimulate the viewers’ inner affections and their common memory.
