Paintings are a kind of representation of "the highest wisdom" in Buddhist teaching. Buddhism is about Buddha's realization of the truth of the universe and Buddha's education of the public. Since the period of the Eastern Han (25AD-220AD), Buddhism came to China and had been believed and recommended by emperors. "Structuring social ethnics and moral order" is the main purpose of Buddhist art. Art is used to educate the public and people can search for the truth, the goodness and the beauty of human nature.
This field is rich cultural assets having accumulated in a historical base and combines arts and Buddhism. To search for beauty of Buddha appearance and face of compassion, Feng-cin Gao employs "brush of a bone method" in which a pen-brush approach is used to represent form, quality and spirit. Elaborate painting colours are the world result from patience and willpower. Buddhist teaching is realized through art and enlightenment is offered to the public through Buddhist teaching. External appearance resulted from Buddha's great inner compassion is a conveyance of great humanitarian spirit which can guide viewers to kindness and also to learn Buddha's teaching and then have self-awareness and then altruism.
The Analects says: "Set your heart upon the Way (tao), base yourself on virtue, lean upon benevolence for support and take my recreation in the arts." This is an ideal recipe for learning of culture and soul. We have a wish – an internal light is lit up and one light passes on to another and then the brightness of Buddha's teaching in the heart can be enkindled.
