Owing to rising of digital technology and internet development, modern people's thinking concepts and visual habits have changed. With technology's limitless progress and evolution, the situation that characters in novels, cartoons, animations or digital virtual space can co-exist with the e-generation's real world becomes possible. These virtual characters can get beyond space, time and life expectancy. The space of "virtual world" refers to the fourth dimension (4D) which is, however, different from "time" element in physics.
Professor Chen has devoted himself to studying and making sketches and three-dimensional sculpture art for forty years. After having seen so many traditional sculptures and diverse contemporary art, he realizes that characters in virtual world are eternal – for example, Mickey Mouse, Barbie, Hello Kitty, Spiderman, Batman…. These characters stand for all aspects of actual life.
This time, National Taiwan Arts Education Center invites Professor Chen to present his ideas. It is hoped that all kinds of virtual characters can attract more young people and the amazing charm of the virtual world can be realized.
