The entire play Surprising Double Encounter, including ‘Cries from a Prison Cell’ (ku jian), ‘Writing the Petition’ (xie zhuang), ‘Three Pulls’ (san la) and ‘The Reunion’ (tuan yuan), is suggested as an interesting comedy. This year, we specially invite celebrated singing-with-acting figures of Peking Opera Association of Xiamen University to sing arias: ‘Bao of the Dragon Image’ (bao long tu) of The Case of Chen Shimei (zha mei an); ‘Autumn-Autumn Pavilion’ (chun qiu ting) of The Lucky Purse (suo lin nang); ‘Persuasion of a King’ (quan juan wang) of Farewell My Concubine (ba wang bie ji); ‘Calling Zhang Sheng’ (jiao zhang sheng) of Matchmaker (hong naiang); ‘Persuasion of Godly Buddha’ (quan qian sui) of Sweet Dew Temple (gan lu shi); ‘Since that Day’ (zi na mu) of The Best Scholar’s Matchmaking (zhuang yuan mei), etc. All these are going to be brilliantly sung and performed.
Focus：Characters shen (male leading character) and dan (female leading character) often find the well-known ‘Writing the Petition’ rather difficult to act. It depicts a couple, though writing the petition to ask for justice, support each other and share everything together. Apparently, they enjoy their marriage life in a loving and amusing way.
