圖畫書是結合文字與圖畫，不僅呈現文字的空間及意象，賦予故事更豐富生命，亦可透過繪者本身對故事的感受與不同畫風來詮釋，衍伸出更多讓我們發揮創意的想像空間。本館希望藉由徵選活動啟發並培養青年學子美感與創意，本（96）年度「全國學生圖畫書創作獎」徵選活動，係繼去年創新籌辦引起廣大迴響後，再次擴大辦理。是項活動以國小、國中、高中、大專的在學學生為徵件對象，尤其有鑑於小學生在六年學習過程中，心智與技能的成長變化極大，在專家學者建議下進行檢討修正，今年進而將國小組區分為低、中、高年級三組。作品收件經整理統計後，計有491所學校1,988名學生參與，共有1,609件參選作品，經過緊鑼密鼓的初審、複審工作之後，產生各組各項獎項得獎者。
作品徵選原創性圖畫書以適合３至１２歲兒童閱讀為主，本次活動學生創作題材更加豐富了，繪畫技巧更加成熟了，雖然在兒童文學造詣上稍嫌薄弱，但每位作者匠心獨運，使得每一故事充滿驚喜的創意與童趣。另本館為獎勵兒童圖畫書創作，提昇國內優良圖像讀物，將發表入選獎以上作品，及展出童書插畫，為本次活動每位創作者對作品所投入的大量熱情、耐力與毅力，給予肯定與喝采！

Graphic books are the combination between texts and illustrations. Not only do illustrations manifest space and imagery of texts, but also they show more richness and vigour. Artists can use their different styles to make a unique interpretation towards stories to extend more to inspire readers' creativity and imagination. National Taiwan Arts Education Center hopes to inspire and cultivate young people's sense of beauty and creativity through a selection activity. Year 2007's selection activity of "The Awards of Creative Graphic Book for Nationwide Students" was more extensively organized after a same activity taking place last year won much praise and attention. This activity focused on students from elementary schools, junior high schools, senior high schools, colleges and universities. In viewing that development of mentality and techniques is dramatically different in different ages during elementary school students' six year learning process, the three groups such as low, middle and high grades were divided after different experts' views were gathered and some adjustments proceeded. Such an arrangement was made to avoid unfairness because of different levels. All the artworks were collected and arranged. There were 1,609 pieces of work made by 1,988 students from 491 schools joining the competition. After intensive tasks of initial and second selections, winners in different items of awards were, in the end, chosen.
The contents of creation of graphic books are suitable for children aged 3 to 12. In this activity, students' rich creation and the subjects and mature paintings skills are amazing. Although their children literature's literal creation was not so brilliant, every artist's uniqueness makes every story full of surprises, innovation and child-like enjoyment. To encourage children's graphic book creation and improve quality of Taiwan's excellent picture books, the National Taiwan Arts Education Center would like to publish works winning prizes and awards and exhibit illustration of children's books. Every creator's devotion of passion, patience and persistence for this activity should be positively recognized and praised!
