山東是中華文化發展過程不可忽略的重鎮，萬世師表孔子在山東留下輝煌的哲學思想，東周強權齊國在山東成就一方霸業，《老殘遊記：明湖居聽書》所描述的王小玉說書正是山東曲種梨花大鼓。本劇邀請保存山東曲藝最完整的濟南市曲藝團來台，與台北曲藝團同台聯演。此外，觀眾也可以實際印證劉鶚所描寫的梨花大鼓究竟是什麼樣的表演型式，和文字敘述有何異同。不僅增添觀賞演出的樂趣，重讀《老殘遊記》也可有一番不同體會。
The storyteller character by the name of Wang Shiao-yu in [Laochan's Escapades: Eavesdropping at Minghu House] is depicted to narrate in Shantung style accompanied by drumming. For this classic Jinan City Dramatic Troupe, which has wonderfully preserved the Shantung traditional style, has been invited to co-perform with Taipei Dramatic Troupe. The audience will also have a chance to witness and compare the type of drummed storytelling the author Liu Erh rendered in the Chinese literary classic and live performance.
