本劇為運用創新手法編演，列國戲偶全新造型設計，來詮釋這段東周列國故事中最令人動容之傳奇：悲劇英雄伍子胥。因楚平王無道，父納子媳，勸諫無效且滿門抄斬，父兄同時遇害，伍子胥大戰樊城突圍而出，從此展開復仇之旅，以個人堅毅不拔的意志和矢志復仇的信念對抗整個楚國，其過程之曲折，情節之離奇，足使人低迴不已。本劇精華以「現場鑼鼓音樂」，配合「幻燈字幕」幫助觀眾理解古典精緻布袋戲的四聯白，是一齣值得回味又有深度的好戲。
This show is performed using all-new techniques and all-new heroic puppet designs. It tells the amazing legend of the tragic hero Wu Tzu-hsu during the ancient Eastern Chou period. After evil King Ping of the state of Chu married his son's wife, he failed to listen to Wu Tzu-hsu's good advice and slaughtered his whole family. Wu Tzu-hsu escaped from the besieged city of Fan and vowed to take revenge. With indomitable will and determination, Wu Tzu-hsu fought the entire state of Chu.
