A businessman, Huo-wang Liao, doesn't like to spend much money, but still wants to marry a decent wife. A go-between, Li-jiao Hong, introduces a girl Ai-lian Chen running a clothes shop to this man and is planning to get some benefit from this arrangement. Liao's niece wants to marry a painter Wen-cai Zeng. But Liao insists on opposing the match. Two shop employees come to Taipei and meet Liao. By accident, one of them, called Cai-fa Wang, falls in love with Chen; the other man, Sin-yi Wang, also comes to join the complicated relationship. As a go-between, Hong also arranges a marriage for herself; but which person becomes her favourite? The whole play is adapted from Thornton Wilder's The Matchmaker. Wilder had made effort to search for dignity and ordinariness existed in life and also insisted that human beings could realize value and the meaning of life during their lifetime.
