Squaring Things: Ink Paintings by Lee Chun-yi
Date/Time :103-5-14~103-5-29
Venue : Exhibition RoomⅢ
Exhibition Institute : Chun-yi Lee

In line with the concept of “modern Chinese ink painting” that promotes the innovation of painting materials, the artist, who was inspired by the traditional art form of ink rubbings, uses a piece of square-shaped cork instead of brush as his tool. By adapting photographic images, he repeatedly imprint the ink from the cork on to the paper to explore the inner meaning of the subject matter.
Focus:The grid formation indebted to the steles rubbings, together with the words and pictorial symbols in the background, express the artist’s concerns about reality and his contemplation of self-existence.
