Breeze! – The Fan-Face Paintings Joint Exhibition by The 72nd Art Education Extension Class in Calligraphy and Painting

Fans have two purposes – a practical one and an artistic one: the practical one is as a means to cause a cool breeze; as for its artistic purpose, it could be used in graphic arts or performances, such as fan dances; when used in Chinese opera, it helps express a character’s actions. It is also a very important tool used in Chinese cross talk (opening it to boost a character’s posture, waving a fan means feeling leisurely). It is also a craft art that can be combined with weaving, sculpture and calligraphy.
Focus:The exhibition exhibits artworks by students of our art education extension class: elaborated styles of flower and bird paintings, paintings of freehand brushwork, paintings of mountains and water, ink paintings by first-graders, elaborated style of human figure painting and ink sketches. They use fans as their canvas to paint various landscapes and views. Thanks to them, these works are like cool breezes on hot summer days.
